Academic managementExaminations• Changing exam dates. Students are entitled to have the date changed on suitable grounds. • Change of lecturers. With a 15 day notice prior to the exam date, students can ask to be examined by a different lecturer. The application must be filed to the Centre Board on suitable grounds, such as the fact that the student may have failed on three or more exam calls with the same lecturer. Accepting this objection implies a tribunal will carry out the evaluation.
• Grades. As from the exam date, the lecturer will have 15 days to submit the exam grades at the college office. The college office will sign and date the grades list. • Mistakes on the grades. As from the day grades are submitted at the college office, the lecturer will have 30 days to amend any mistakes made. Once this period has elapsed, the correction needs to be made by the Secretariat General of Universitat. Grade appealStudents are entitled to review and even appeal if there are problems with their exam marks. They may request the corresponding lecturer to review the grade in the 15 days following publication. The department will publish the review dates and hours and the review will take place before the student, after which he/she will have 7 days to revoke –in writing and at the Centre Board- the review or evaluation result. The Centre Board will then pass the application to the Grade Appeal Commission. The Commission may ask for further documentation and reports and a final, binding decision will be made. Simultaneous degreesTwo Universitat de València degrees can be studied at the same
time. These are the requirements: - One complete year of one of the degrees must have been passed. - To have been admitted in the second degree following the procedures established (pre-enrolment, if places are limited). Once admission has been granted and prior to enrolment, applications must be filed at the office of the first degree college or at the office of the new degree for second cycle studies or other educational complements specifically offered that might be considered a prerequisite. Validation and adaptationThe incorporation of courses completed in other universities or from other degrees into the student's records can be done via: - Validation: two curricula from different official degrees are compared. For instance, subjects or courses from a different degree completed in a different university or in the same one. Validation needs to be applied for when admitted to a new degree and parallel to the enrolment process. The student’s academic records must be produced, together with course syllabi and the degree curriculum. - Adaptation: two different curricula for the same official degree are compared. For instance, courses that have been completed in a different university or courses that have been completed in the same university but belonging to different curricula. Adaptation needs to be requested once admitted in the new degree and parallel to the enrolment process. If adaptation is required for courses completed in a different university, the student’s academic records must be produced, together with course syllabi and the degree curriculum. Optional coursesThis term refers to the credit percentage that can be earned from courses or training external to the degree. It could be up to 10% of the total credits. These are the optional course types:
- Specific offer. These are specific actions explicitly offered by UV departments under the optional course scheme. The offer is passed by the Managing Board on a yearly basis. - External offer. These are courses organised by UV services or entities other than Universitat de València, but are acknowledged by the University Board on a yearly basis. In general terms, the supply is published during the academic year and enrolment takes place at the institution organising the courses. Once the course has been completed, participation will have to be proved for the college office to include this information to the academic records. - Optional credit excess. If, on completion of a degree, a student has more elective credits than required, the excess is included as optional. School insuranceFirst, second, and third cycle students under 28 years of age not holding a social security card can benefit from this insurance. Basically, in case of school accident it covers the medical and pharmacological care, hospitalisation, surgery, and death or invalidity compensations. The insurance is paid for yearly on enrolment (1,12€). Information on the scheme hospitals is available at the DISE offices. |
