International cooperation and mobility

International Relations

Continuous efforst are made by the Department for Scientific Policy and International Cooperation to strengthen links between Universitat de València and education institutions throughout the world. This is evidenced by the 331 academic cooperation agreements entered with more than 50 countries, such as Argentina, the US, Cuba, France, Mexico, and the UK. The agreements facilitate the exchange of many Universitat de València lecturers.

flagsNetworking is another action that shows the university's willingness to cooperate. At present, Universitat is a member of the EUA (European University Association) with more than 500 universities, CUM (Community of Mediterranean Univesities), EAIE (European Association of International Education) and the Joan Lluís Vives university network.

Participating in international mobility programmes like Socrates-Erasmus, Leonardo, Tempus, Alban, and the grant scheme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Cooperation Agency is another way of boosting the movement of Universitat de València members.

Finally, a UV mobility programme has also been running for a few years now. This scheme helps students complete their studies in a different university.

Development cooperation

Cooperation with developing countries is mainly dealt with by the General Foundation and the South-North Trust. These are their main action programmes:

Fee exemption for students. On a yearly basis, the Trust offers funds for enrolment feesthe world for students from developing countries who have kept their nationalities and carry out official studies of either 1st, 2nd or 3rd cycles in the Universitat centres.

Cooperation and development projects. Development cooperation projects produced and submitted by different Universitat organs and the General Foundation itself are managed. The projects are usually funded by different public institutions through the existing calls where the selected cooperation projects are submitted.

University cooperation. Jointly with other university organisations and dNGOs, original activities and awareness campaigns are organised and managed, and projects and initiatives are facilitated through the participation of lecturers and experts from the cooperation and development fields.

Student mobility

mobility to europeSocrates-Erasmus

This is a macro-programme which groups educational activities promoting the European dimension in higher education. Socrates follows the policy of promoting language skills, open and distance education, and the exchange of information and experiences.

Movement grants for Erasmus students are in the form of financial aid. The objective is to partially pay for the travel expenses, language courses, or differences in the standard of living between the origin and destination countries.

The selected candidates receive 110€/month minimum from the European Union and Universitat de València. They are also eligible for the specific grants of the Education and Culture Department and the Erasmus-Bancaixa grants. The EU and Universitat funds are complemented with a small sum from the Ministry of Education and Science at the end of the stay.

In order to organise the yearly activities, each university signs a bilateral agreement with each of the associated universities, as well as an institutional agreement with the EU. The latter agreement is assessed by the Socrates office who –considering the approved activities- grants the economic aid in accordance with their own criteria.

leonardo programmeLeonardo

This programme was created with a view to promoting a policy of professional training in line with the current circumstances in Europe. It links the university to the companies, favouring company placements in other member states by social science last-year students and graduates for three to six months. Leonardo's objective is to stimulate the training of the professionals in the field of advanced technologies, to develop highly qualified human resources, and to promote competitiveness in the European industry. ADEIT, the University-Business Foundation of València, acts as an intermediary between Universitat and the companies, and organises the placements.
